Tracey Eyles’s Profile
Base
Name | Tracey Eyles |
Location | I am an uninvited settler of Scottish/English/Irish heritage living, working and raising my family on the unceded traditional territories of the Lheidli T’enneh in Prince George, BC, at the confluence of the Fraser and Nechako Rivers. |
Where do you work? | I am the Knowledge Mobilization Advisor with the Representative for Children and Youth (RCY) in British Columbia, an independent office of the legislature dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights and well-being of children, youth, and young adults. In my role, I focus on translating research, data, and lived experiences into actionable insights and strategies to drive systemic change. Currently, I am contributing to a systemic review of the child welfare system, working to ensure that evidence-informed solutions lead to equitable, rights-based services for children, youth, and families across the province. |
Bio | I am a cis-gendered woman living, working and playing in North/Central B.C. I have been married for 22 years, and I am a mom to 2 teenage daughters, 19 and 16. I am the first person in my family –on my mother’s and father’s sides – who has gone to university. My family has been my greatest support along my educational pathway, and I genuinely believe in formal and informal life-long learning. My work with Indigenous families and communities has changed my worldview in many ways. I have witnessed first hand the impacts of colonization and the foundation of inequalities and racism that have led to the exclusion and oppression of those who have been traditionally marginalized in our society. The views and values with which we treat the most vulnerable in our country is often reflected in how we view and treat children. There is a distinct lack of knowledge, awareness, and understanding the rights of children and youth and the role that adults play in acknowledging, safeguarding, and upholding those rights. I am a passionate advocate for equity and justice and have spent my career supporting young people and their adult caregivers to learn and understand about the rights of children and youth, teaching young people how to use their voice to express those rights and to educate the adults in children’s rights and how to guide and support young people in this integral life-skill we call self-advocacy. |
Interests | While I have been in the MEd program for two years, I haven’t had time to participate in many of my interests. I love to camp in the summer in Southern B.C., where the lakes are blue, green, and warm! I love going to concerts of any kind (thanks to my husband, my music repertoire has expanded to include some genres I would never typically listen to!). I would love to travel, and I look forward to doing this more as my children become more independent. I am an avid fiction reader – that is one thing that I have not been able to give up while doing my masters. I read every night before bed, and I read every morning before I get ready for work. My tastes are pretty eclectic, and I have to say, while in grad school, I mainly read fluff or a good thriller. |
Social Media Accounts | I am on X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Snapchat (thanks to teen daughters). I also have a WhatsApp account, but I rarely use it. |
